Jewelers in Kolkata have taken to Twitter to protest the closure of their businesses and the arrest of several employees, as the city faces a fresh round of unrest.
A tweet by the @kjewels and Bajajan jewelers reads, “The K Jewelers & Bajajians have decided to withdraw their operations from tomorrow.
We are fully cooperating with authorities.
#KJarns”The tweet was shared on Twitter by @KjewelsAndBajajans, a subsidiary of the Kajali Group, which operates both jewelers shops and jewelry shops in the city.
According to the tweet, the KJarnishas staff will not be allowed to work at the jewellers for two months.
The tweet also says that Bajas jewellery is not being shut down.
“We are deeply saddened by this news, and our customers will continue to shop at Kajalis shop till the end of the day,” the tweet reads.
Earlier, on February 14, the city was hit by a spate of riots that led to the death of one person.
The Karnataka government has said that it has deployed over 500 police personnel and deployed over 1,200 personnel to control the situation.
