Posted October 03, 2018 09:08:33The man who made the stunning jewelry ring that was so beautiful that it inspired a book about a thief in Boston has been arrested, authorities said Tuesday.
Dillon Allen, a 36-year-old from Rockland County, was arrested after police received a tip that he was selling the ring in Boston, according to Boston police.
The ring sold for more than $3,000 at an auction in Massachusetts on Tuesday, the police said.
The ring, described as a “jewelry piece of art,” was sold at the Rockland Jewelers in Cambridge and on eBay.
Allen was arrested Monday at a home in Roxbury and taken to a police station in Cambridge where he was booked on theft by deception, police said in a statement.
The incident comes amid growing concern about thefts of luxury jewelry.
In August, a woman was arrested in Connecticut for allegedly breaking into the home of a jewelry designer and stealing jewelry worth more than a million dollars.
In January, two men were arrested in Ohio after police say they stole about $100,000 worth of jewelry and used it to buy a home and car.
